MP calls for help for Celanese workers who will lose their jobs
25th August 2010
Local MP Pauline Latham welcomes news that Celanese is to retain a small workforce locally when most of the manufacturing moves abroad but she calls for help for those who will lose their jobs.
After nearly 100 years in Spondon the company is moving its manufacturing of acetate flake and tow overseas.
Pauline said:
“Whilst it is good news 70 jobs will remain locally, the loss of hundreds is more devastating. Some of those people will have been at Celanese for a long time.”
“We have to look at how many jobs there are around of the sort that they can do and whether they have the skills that employers require.”
