John Hayes MP, Shadow Minister for Innovation, Universities and Skills, visit to Derby College and the University

26th March 2009

On Thursday 26th March Pauline Latham, the Parliamentary Candidate for Mid-Derbyshire, and Stephen Mold, (PPC for Derby North), welcomed a senior member of David Cameron’s team to Derby. John Hayes MP, the Shadow Minister for Innovation, Universities and Skills, with Pauline and Stephen, visited Derby University and Derby College.

Commenting on John Hayes visit, Pauline Latham said, ‘We had a very interesting meeting at Derby College, talking about the issues faces colleges, particularly in terms of Capital funding. Fortunately the Capital Funding that has been stopped for many colleges has not for Derby, as their project is nearly complete. It was a pleasure to be able to show John what Derby has to offer.

John Hayes said “Pauline arranged a superb day for me in Derby, during which I was able to see the exciting new building work at Derby College of Further Education, and meet the vice-Chancellor and his senior managers at Derby university where we discussed widening access to Higher Education and the exemplary work of Derby in informing their teaching through research relevant to their local community and economy. The day was a rich diet of ideas, experience and local good practice which will prove immensely valuable to my work as a Shadow Minister. That is all due to the work of Pauline Latham and the candidate for Derby North, Stephen Mold: I wish to thank them wholeheartedly”.
