Thank you for emailing in to ask my views on fox hunting.

If re-elected I would be lobbying government for an independent review of how the current laws are working before any vote was scheduled.

I would want the review to be undertaken by an independent organisation such as the Royal Veterinary College or another animal welfare organisation to understand their view on the current state of the fox population. Having an independent reviewer would ensure political bias does not play a part in the decision making process - and that expertise can be provided regarding the welfare of the foxes.

Currently, foxes are still hunted by dogs if the indiscriminate shooting of them fails to kill - which, arguably, is a crueller situation because they suffer a drawn out death rather than if the shot kills them quickly and cleanly. Often that doesn't happen.

Only after an independent review would I make a decision about the issue because the welfare of the animal is very important.
