Pauline Latham OBE MP (Mid Derbyshire) discussed the difficulty older workers with caring responsibilities face in the workplace during Work and Pensions Oral Questions in the House of Commons on Monday 21 November, and tried to ensure that the Government was doing enough to help them.
Speaking to Rt Hon Damian Green MP, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mrs Latham asked:
“Mr Speaker, many older workers have caring responsibilities which can make it hard for them to remain in work or even to return to work. What is he doing to encourage employers to work responsibly with these very valuable employees”?
In response, the Secretary of State agreed that these workers were valuable to the economy and that the Government had introduced flexible working and older claimant champion schemes to help such employees.
