Visiting Allotments

Thank you for contacting me about the use of your allotment during the coronavirus outbreak.

I understand how important access to allotments can be, not only for its owner but also to neighbours and local communities who benefit from the growth of fresh fruit and vegetables too.

It is still perfectly safe for you go out into your gardens and allotments, however you must continue to follow the Government’s advice. This means that social distancing must be strictly kept to while you are on the allotment, as well as on your journey there and back – keeping 2 metres (over 6.6ft) between you and the people around you.

When arriving at your allotment, you should wash your hands for 20 seconds using soap and warm water or, if this is not available, use hand sanitizer. When leaving your allotment, and having locked your allotment site, you should use hand sanitizer again. If you do not have any, you should not touch your face or any other surface until you are home again and can wash with warm water and soap.

Of course, anyone with COVID-19 or within a house where a patient is, must self-isolate at home and stay away from their allotment site.

We face difficult weeks and months ahead, but together we will get through this.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
