National Campaigns

parl

Every day, I receive dozens of campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. Whilst most individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of campaign emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and will therefore be posting my responses on this section of my website. You may also be able to find the information you are looking for on the website of the relevant Government department.

Early Day Motions (EDMs)

Early Day Motions (EDMs) are something that I regularly get asked to sign.  EDMs are used to put on record the views of individual MPs or to draw attention to specific events or campaigns.  I do not sign any EDMs at all, however much I may sympathise with the cause they are highlighting. The administration around EDMs is costly to the taxpayer and they rarely have any influence on the legislative process.

Cap on Care Costs (Health and Care Bill)

I am proud to support a Government that is committed to taking the difficult decisions and tackling the problems in the social care system head on. This historic plan for adult social care will protect individuals and families from unpredictable and potentially catastrophic care costs.

fuel

Fuel Duty Cut

In recognition of the unprecedented circumstances pushing up fuel prices, I welcome the decision announced at the Spring Statement to cut fuel duty by 5 pence for a full year across all fuel duty rates.

Fracking

Ministers maintained that fracking should only proceed if the science shows that it is safe, sustainable and minimises disturbances to local communities. Therefore, I welcomed the Government’s decision to halt fracking considering the most recent evidence.

haulage

Road Haulage Association (Support Road Transport Businesses)

I fully recognise that this is a challenging time for road hauliers. I am appreciative of the role that road hauliers have played in the national effort to combat Covid-19.

Multi-Sensory Impairment Education Fund

Thank you for contacting me about local funding for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

I want all children with SEND to achieve well at school, be able to go on to college or university, and to live happy and fulfilled adult lives in the future.

Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

These are common long-term conditions that can have a significant impact on a woman’s life and I am aware of and sympathise with the hardships faced by women who experience severe symptoms.

gambling

The Gambling Review

I recognise that gambling is for many people an enjoyable pastime, but equally that for many people it can become a serious problem.

Asylum & Refugees (Clause 11 of the Nationality and Borders Bill)

The United Kingdom has a proud record of helping those fleeing persecution, oppression or tyranny from around the world. Alongside providing £10 billion a year to support people through our overseas aid, the UK is a global leader in refugee resettlement.

fluoride

Fluoridation in Water

While I note concerns about fluoride in your water supply, fluoridation programmes in our country are common practice, and have been in place for nearly 60 years. I am aware that currently, around 5.8 million people in England already consume fluoridated water.

'At-Home' Abortions

I understand that this can be an incredibly emotive issue, and can fully appreciate the strength of feelings around this matter. In February, the Government announced a six-month extension to temporary arrangements put in place at the beginning of the pandemic that mean women can take both pills

Nationality & Borders Bill (Modern Slavery)

I am committed to supporting victims of modern slavery to help them recover from their exploitation and to support the prosecution of their exploiters. There is also a clear duty on the Government to safeguard and protect child victims of that appalling abuse.

cost

Cost of Living

I understand anxiety over rising prices and inflation.I want to assure you that the Government will continue to listen and to ensure that the policies in place do help those who need it most. I have made my ministerial colleagues aware of my constituents' concerns and I strongly welcome the range
