Every day, I receive dozens of campaign emails from constituents concerned about a huge variety of national issues. Whilst most individual constituency enquiries will be answered by email or letter, due to the vast increase in the volume of campaign emails now being generated, I can no longer guarantee replying to these individually and will therefore be posting my responses on this section of my website. You may also be able to find the information you are looking for on the website of the relevant Government department.

Early Day Motions (EDMs)

Early Day Motions (EDMs) are something that I regularly get asked to sign.  EDMs are used to put on record the views of individual MPs or to draw attention to specific events or campaigns.  I do not sign any EDMs at all, however much I may sympathise with the cause they are highlighting. The administration around EDMs is costly to the taxpayer and they rarely have any influence on the legislative process.

Plastic Target

Significant progress has already been made to address plastic pollution. This includes introducing one of the world’s toughest bans on microbeads in rinse-off personal care products and restricting the supply of plastic straws, plastic drink stirrers, and plastic-stemmed cotton buds.

Thank you for contacting me about genetic technology. I know that the Government is working to encourage agricultural and scientific innovation in the UK through legislation, opening the potential of new technologies to promote sustainable and efficient farming and food production.

Snares

I understand your concerns around the use of snares, which can, when used improperly, cause immense suffering to both target and non-target animals. As part of the drive to maintain our high animal welfare standards, I welcome that the Action Plan for Animal Welfare sets out the Government’s inte

Ban Conversion Therapy

Thank you for contacting me about so called 'conversion therapy'. I take this issue very seriously and I know that my colleagues in the Equalities Office remain committed to tackling conversion therapy in the UK. I am absolutely clear that this practice has no place in civilised society.

Cash Availability and Acceptance

Cash remains an important part of daily life for millions of people across the UK, which is why the Government has committed to legislate for the protection of access to cash.  As of October 2021, LINK reported that there were around 41,000 free-to-use ATMs in the UK. More broadly, the Financial
