Reopening of Beauty Salons

Thank you for contacting me about the reopening of salons, beauticians and other close contact services.

It is most welcome that Ministers reopened  beauticians, tattooists, spas, tanning salons and other close-contact services on Monday 13 July. These businesses will remain subject to some restrictions on particularly high risk services.

No treatments are currently allowed to be provided to the face, although these treatments can expect to resume from 1 August 2020. Examples of such services include the following, though this list is not exhaustive:

  • face waxing, sugaring or threading services
  • facial treatments
  • advanced facial technical (electrical or mechanical)
  • eyelash treatments
  • make-up application
  • dermarolling
  • dermaplaning
  • microblading
  • electrolysis on the face
  • eyebrow treatments
  • intricate detailing, outlining or shaving of beards
  • advanced beauty therapy and aesthetic treatments (this does not apply to medical settings)

Treatments restricted to the body, but excluding those in the highest risk zone, can currently resume with mitigations as set out in the Covid-19 Secure guidance.

This guidance which details how these businesses can reopen and operate safely, is available online at: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/close-contact-services
