I was delighted to host a Q&A event in Parliament yesterday with key industry and media figures to provide MPs with an opportunity to learn more about biomass.
We were joined by Joe Crowley, BBC Reporter; Dr Nina Skorupska of the Renewable Energy Association; and Phil MacDonald of Ember; who all gave informative presentations and clear answers to the questions posed. Joe spoke about his BBC Panorama documentary and the revelations about biomass production contained within, whilst Nina and Phil informed us about the ways forward for biomass and its comparisons both with fossil fuels and with truly carbon neutral energy sources.
This followed on directly from my speech in a debate on biomass which you can read here.
I also published an article in February recommending that the government moves away from biomass subsidies, which you can read here.
I hope that in the Biomass Strategy the government announces an end to biomass subsidies, and an increase in investment instead in domestic renewables, which are now both cheaper and more environmentally friendly than biomass.
