In today’s Culture, Media and Sport Questions, Pauline Latham OBE MP quizzed the Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries about the availability of superfast broadband in Mid Derbyshire. She alluded to the difficulties faced by residents in Belper, Morley and Oakwood in getting connected.
In his reply to Mrs Latham, the Minister, the Rt Hon Edward Vaizey MP said that there was certainly more that could be done, but that the Rural Broadband programme had already connected 1,500 premises in Belper alone. Feeling that more progress should be made in this regard, Mrs Latham has written a letter detailing her concerns in depth.
Mrs Latham, MP for Mid Derbyshire said:
“I am concerned that the connection issues in Belper, Morley and Oakwood will continue to be a problem. Whilst more premises are now connected to the Superfast Broadband network in Belper, progress in this regard needs to improve. That is why I have written to the Minister to express my concerns about connectivity in the area.
Nevertheless, based on the Minister’s response today, it is clear that the Government is committed to delivering this important resource across the country.”
