Today, Henry Smith MP’s bill to ban the import of hunting trophies passed its Committee Stage in the House of Commons.
Since 1980, British hunters have imported approximately 5,000 trophies of species listed as endangered by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), including elephants, hippos, leopards, zebras and lions.
This bill will pave the way for the introduction of the world’s toughest ban on hunting trophies.
I fully support my colleague’s bill and look forward to supporting it as it returns to the House of Commons, securing enhanced protections for animals in danger
