Pauline Lathan OBE MP hosts Parliamentary Roundtable promoting diversity in the Mining Industry
Pauline Latham, Chair of the All Party Group on the Extractive industries held a roundtable discussion in conjunction with the organisation Women in Mining in the House of Commons. The event was attended by senior representatives from 20 mining companies, and a number of members from both Houses of Parliament.
The event comes after the release of a three year study by Women in Mining concerning the numbers of women on the executive boards of mining companies. The report revealed that in the last three years, appointments of women to executive board positions had increased by 3.1%.
Mrs Latham praised the government for the role it has had in driving the numbers of women on boards up, but said that more needed to be done to support women in the mining industry.
Mrs Latham, MP for Mid Derbyshire said:
“This report shows that mining companies with women on their boards actually do better than those that don’t. I work in a similarly male dominated world, and I am fully supportive of the important role than Women in Mining plays in encouraging the careers of women."
